If you use your website, social media or other online presence to promote or refer traffic to any brand, product or service in exchange for any form of compensation (money, free product, advertising or other benefit), you need to comply with FCT disclosure rules.
For affiliates, the FTC rules can be boiled down to two primary requirements:
1. If you’re paid to promote something, you have to disclose the fact that you’re being paid to promote the thing.
2. Making a disclosure isn’t enough. FTC rules also require that any disclosures you post are a) clear and conspicuous; b) are prominent enough to be easily noticed by your users; and c) are displayed and worded in a way that your users can understand them.
